The bottom plate fell off because the bolt holding it became stripped of its thread. A replacement from Mitre Ten obtained today has also become faulty within a couple of hours of use. (the adhesive holding the velcro surface on the diamond shaped plate has failed and the rubber plate has started to become detached). This compares to many years of similar use from a previous mouse sander which this one replaced.
